My micropractice is dropping likes and comments on Substack posts I appreciate. I may not be able to take a paid subscription to most, but I can still say, "I see you and appreciate your work. It had an impact on me."
Jeff, what a generous micropractice—and a powerful one. I love that you’re using likes and comments as a form of care. Your words really landed with me. Thank you for seeing me and for taking the time to say so.
Great article! A friend of mine gave a simple compliment to a workshop instructor—and it led to a powerful connection. By the end of their chat, the instructor had introduced him to a whole network that helped move his job search forward. Just goes to show how far a genuine compliment can take you!
I love this story—what a beautiful ripple from one simple moment of kindness. It’s amazing how something as small as a compliment can open unexpected doors. Thank you for sharing this!
I love this article! So many of your articles feature science backing up the things I've been doing, solely based on my intuition. It's so validating! I had this epiphany 14 years ago, and stopped holding back when I wanted to give a compliment. It was life changing for me.
From 2015 to 2020 I worked in the food service industry, by this time giving compliments had already become second nature, and I would pass them out like party favors. Most of my coworkers had a pretty negative view of their job, especially dealing with the customers, whereas my experience with customers was almost always a wonderful experience. It's amazing how the energy changes just by being kind and noticing something positive about the people you are interacting with.
Thanks again for sharing. You're helping to make the world a better place one article at a time! 💛
Kristina, this means so much. I’m moved by how you listened to that quiet inner nudge—and how it shaped the way you moved through the world. The image of handing out compliments “like party favors” made me smile. It’s such a beautiful reminder of how small kindnesses can shift the tone of a whole job. Thank you for sharing this—and for making your corner of the world a little brighter, one generous word at a time :)

I see you, Eli.
